Cabinet in session

On July 16, Cabinet held an irregular meeting to review the president’s proposals on the changes to the Constitution. During Naadam, President Kh.Battulga held a meeting with Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, Speaker of Parliament G.Zandanshatar, and several lawmakers to discuss the ongoing process of constitutional amendments and his proposals on the proposed changes to the Constitution.

As the president put forward his proposal on constitutional amendments to the government this week, Cabinet made a review and several Cabinet ministers expressed their opinions on the president’s proposals. Local media outlets reported on July 16 that

the president put forward proposals on constitutional amendments such as making changes to the electoral system and formation of political party. In addition, the president wants to tighten the formation process of new political parties. Currently, founders of a new political party need to collect signatures from 801 members to formally establish a political party, but according to the president’s proposal, those who are interested in forming a political party will have to collect signatures from at least 10,000 members. The caucus of the Mongolian People’s Party will soon review the president’s proposals.
