Cabinet reviews projects regarding ger district improvement, support for the disable and light industry technological park

During its weekly meeting on Wednesday, Cabinet agreed to support a draft on an agreement on transit transport between the governments of Russia and Mongolia, and Minister of Roads and Transportation J.Bat-Erdene was assigned with establishing the agreement. After the agreement enters into force, a tariff facility on Mongolian goods passing through Russian territory will be carried out for 25 years. This agreement is expected to help Mongolia export its goods to international markets. Cabinet also agreed to support a loan agreement for the second phase of Ulaanbaatar Urban Services and Ger District Development Investment Program, which is being implemented by the government of Mongolia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to improve the lives of people residing in ger districts. The second phase of the project is designed to improve infrastructure and provide a wide range of services in ger districts, and an ADB soft loan will fund the development of sub-centers in Dambadarjaa ger district in Khoroo No. 16 and 17 of Sukhbaatar District and Denjiin Myanga ger area in Khoroo No. 11, 12 and 13 of Chingeltei District. The installation of sewage pumps and building roads, lighting, sidewalks, drainage, flood protection embankments, a bridge, a kindergarten for 100 children, and a sport complex have been outlined in the construction of sub-centers. Firstly, the ADB funding will be streamed to sub-centers in Bayankhoshuu ger area of Songinokhairkhan District and Selbe area in 14th khoroo of Sukhbaatar District to improve heating systems, upgrade water supply and waste water systems, expand roads, increase green facility, and build a kindergarten, business incubator and college. Cabinet members also approved the National Program to Promote People with Disabilities, which aims to promote disabled people’s rights, their inclusion and development. Minister of Labor and Social Protection S.Chinzorig was instructed to monitor the program’s implementation and focus on providing disabled people education, healthcare, jobs, housing and other essential needs. The Prime Minister instructed affiliate ministers and mayors of Ulaanbaatar and provinces to allocate financing from the state budget and local government budgets each year to implement the program and to focus on bringing international assistance to promote people with disabilities. During its meeting, Cabinet agreed to set up a task force led by Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry B.Batzorig that will study financial resources for Emeelt light industry and technology park project. The government is looking to launch the program soon as it is expected to help ensure sustainable development of livestock product processing industry, which is considered as a crucial sector for the nation’s economic growth. The park is expected to house a leather and wool processing industrial complex, power plant, water treatment plant, a residential area and warehousing facilities. The Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry are working together to move all leather processing factories operating near downtown Ulaanbaatar to Emeelt area in the outskirt of the capital.
