The collection for vehicle tax, air pollution fee and road tax has kicked off following the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Directive on City Taxes, dated January 4, 2018. Car owners must pay taxes within the set time limit for all license plates depending on their last digits, or in advance, as specified in the revised Regulation on Vehicle Registration and Payment System in Ulaanbaatar, which took effect on January 26, 2015. Vehicle tax collection is scheduled as followed depending on the last digit of license plates. The procedure will end on May 31.
  • License plates ending with 1 and 6 must pay taxes in January
  • License plates ending with 2 and 7 must pay taxes in February
  • License plates ending with 3 and 8 must pay taxes in March
  • License plates ending with 4 and 9 must pay taxes in April
  • License plates ending with 5 and 0 must pay taxes in May
Car owners can now directly transfer their taxes to the bank account of their affiliate district tax department, or make an online payment via the central online traffic services website, www.smartcar.mn. The General Taxation Department stated that people who transferred their vehicle tax are required to get their document stamped at the nearest tax collection spot, whereas those paying through the internet need to print out their receipt and keep it attached to their vehicle certificate to validate that they have paid their taxes in case a traffic police officer inspects. Location and timetable of tax collection spots are specified below.
