Ice sculptures of UK monuments on display at Sukhbaatar Square

The Palace of Westminster and The Beatles have been sculpted into ice figures and displayed at Sukhbaatar Square in commemoration of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the UK. The unveiling ceremony was held on Tuesday with attendance from Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations B.Battsetseg, Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar J.Batbayasgalan, Ambassador of the UK to Mongolia Catherine Arnold, and other representatives from the British Embassy. Ambassador Arnold noted that Mongolia and the UK cooperate in various fields, from peacekeeping operations to education, arts and culture. She wished for the diplomatic relation to grow deeper and bilateral partnership to expand. Deputy Minister B.Battsetseg remarked, “On behalf of the Mongolian government, I’d like to thank the British Embassy for organizing the opening ceremony for the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the UK in a unique way.” “Mongolia established a diplomatic relationship with a western country for the first time in 1963 and that country was the UK. This year, we’re celebrating a historic event. Within the scope of broadening bilateral ties, I’m happy that Ulaanbaatar and London are expanding and strengthening their relations and cooperation,” said Deputy Mayor J.Batbayasgalan. The ice sculptures were created by sculptor Ts.Batmunkh at the request of the British Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.
