Snow storms hit Arkhangai, Tuv, Zavkhan, Bayankhongor, Uvurkhangai, Dundgovi, Bulgan, and Selenge provinces yesterday, reports the Institute for Meteorology and Environment Monitoring.
Weather forecasters warned that winds are blowing at up to 20 meters per second and temperatures are continuing to drop at an alarming rate in Govi-Altai, Uvurkhangai, Bayan-Ulgii, and northern part of Bayankhongor provinces.

According to the Institute for Meteorology and Environment Monitoring, heavy snowfall and snow blizzards will reach central, eastern and southern regions of Mongolia on February 9 and 10 before shifting to central and northeastern provinces on February 12. However, a relatively low amount of snowfall is forecasted on February 12.
The wind speed will reportedly intensify to up to 18 meters per second in eastern regions on February 9 and to up to 14 meters per second in the Gobi and steppe regions from February 10 to 12.
The temperature will be around -27 to -32 degrees Celsius during the day and -40 to -45 degrees Celsius at night near Uvs Lake basin, Zavkhan River, and Tes River basin.
Temperatures will drop to -20 to -25 degrees Celsius during the day and -34 to -39 degrees Celsius at night around Darkhad Khotgor Valley, Khuren Belchir, and Kharaa, Yuruu, Tuul, Terelj, Kherlen, Ulz, and Kharaa rivers.
Southern parts of the Gobi region will be relatively warm, with daytime temperatures of up to -9 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures of -19 to -24 degrees Celsius. Other regions will need to prepare for cold weather conditions, with average daytime temperatures ranging from -15 to -20 degrees Celsius and average nighttime temperatures ranging from -25 to -30 degrees Celsius.
The weather is forecasted to become warmer from February 11 in most parts of the country.
Police warns about slippery roads
The Traffic Police Department issued a warning to drive carefully on rural roads due to increased risks of slippery road from snow storms.
The traffic police advised drivers to stay on high alert when driving within and outside of Ulaanbaatar and recommended that travelers drive slowly on slippery roads and at night or when visibility is limited.
