Speaker M.Enkhbold honors Olympic medalists

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first medal won by a Mongolian athlete at the Olympic Games, Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold met with Mongolian Olympic medalists on February 13 at the State House. Mongolia’s greatest achievement from the games when four Mongolian freestyle wrestlers earned one silver and three bronze medals at the Summer Olympics held in Mexico City in 1968. To date, Mongolian athletes have claimed 26 medals at the Olympics, including two gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals. The speaker asked senior Olympic medalists to focus on training more Mongolian young athletes to make them world class athletes and to give athletes training for the 2020 Olympic Games their valuable advice as well as making more efforts to maintain the nation’s continued success at the Olympics. The senior athletes asked Speaker M.Enkhbold to focus on consolidate the state welfare provided to Olympic and World Championship medalists through a government resolution by issuing a parliamentary resolution. They also asked the speaker to help the Mongolian Olympic team that participated in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics to attend the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and help provide some senior athletes with social welfare. Speaker M.Enkhbold said that after talking with representatives from the government and some state organizations in charge of sports and social protection affairs about their requests, he will respond with decisions made by the government.
