Legislator L.Oyun-Erdene demands resignation of Speaker M.Enkhbold

Some legislators led by MP J.Batzandan organized a hearing on issues regarding former Head of the General Intelligence Agency B.Khurts at the State Palace in December 2017, and lawmaker L.Oyun-Erdene made some statements against B.Khurts at the hearing.

In response to B.Khurts’ complaint, the Independent Authority Against Corruption (IAAC) interrogated L.Oyun-Erdene about his statements on June 15.

In front of the IAAC building, MP L.Oyun-Erdene shared his stance on the IAAC’s operations to combat corruption with the media.

The lawmaker noted that the IAAC reviewed controversial issues regarding the 49 and 51 percent stakes of Erdenet Mining Corporation, and the plot to raise 60 billion MNT by selling government positions, but the agency has purposefully prolonged these cases. He said President Kh.Battulga, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh and Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs Ts.Nyamdorj, who all made strong claims against corruption before they took offices, are not making efforts to address the cases.

L.Oyun-Erdene stated that as he believes that Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold is illegible to chair the legislature due to his alleged involvement in the plot to raise 60 billion MNT, M.Enkhbold should step down from his position and resign from the legislature.

The legislator stressed that he will not attend a parliamentary session until Speaker M.Enkhbold resigns. The IAAC and prosecutor made a joint decision on this matter.

In response to L.Oyun-Erdene’s statement, Political Policy Advisor to the speaker B.Gunbileg stated that L.Oyun-Erdene is not well informed and that the law enforcement authorities already closed this case about raising 60 billion MNT, or he is making an attempt to start a controversy with an political agenda.
