During a Cabinet meeting held on November 14, the ministers supported the General Consulate of Mongolia in China’s Shanghai City to promote the government’s measures to expand the nation’s relations with neighbor countries in mutually beneficial sectors such as trade, economy and tourism.
According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, opening the general consulate in Shanghai will be of crucial importance to providing Mongolians living and studying in China’s Shanghai, Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces with fast and accessible consular services and protecting their rights.
The government believes that Chinese citizens interested in traveling to Mongolia, who are residing in Shanghai or foreign tourists traveling in Shanghai can easily receive a Mongolian visa from the consulate, which will promote Mongolian tourism development.
In addition, as Shanghai is the world’s major port city and global financial hub, general consulates from over 70 countries are based in Shanghai, and more than 1,000 exhibitions and fairs, including over 300 international events, takes place in the city every year, which will benefit Mongolia’s bilateral and multilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Cabinet also made a decision to open trade representative offices in Beijing, Tokyo and Russia’s Vladivostok City.
The key aim of the trade offices is to provide Mongolian entrepreneurs who are interested in further developing their trade and economic cooperation with Russia, Japan or China accurate information about the investment and legal environments of their respective countries; promote their business opportunities; protect their business interests; help them participate in international exhibitions and expos; and seek more opportunities for establishing flexible and beneficial agreements on trade, economy, investment, customs and tariff.
During the meeting, Cabinet supported to open a Mongolian embassy in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, which was submitted to Parliament’s Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy for further review.
Cabinet ministers reviewed agendas for a meeting of Mongolia-Hungary intergovernmental commission on trade, economy, science and technical cooperation, which will be held from November 20 to 21 in Budapest, Hungary.
During the meeting, representatives from the government of Mongolia will discuss the results of the previous intergovernmental meeting and exchange ideas on collaboration opportunities for deepening cooperation in the areas of economy, education, food and agriculture, health, water management and environment with the Hungarian side.
During the meeting, Ambassador of Mongolia to Hungary Z.Batbayar was assigned with signing an agreement between the governments of Mongolia and Hungary on road transportation of international passenger and freight.
Cabinet allowed Minister of Finance Ch.Khurelbaatar to sign the loan agreement of Southeast Gobi Urban and Border Town Development Project (Additional Financing), which will be implemented with support of the Asian Development Bank.
Under the project, wastewater treatment plants will be built and sewerage systems will be upgraded in the capitals of Khuvsgul, Khentii, Bulgan, Dundgovi and Sukhbaatar provinces.
