North Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ri Yong-ho paid an official visit to Mongolia from December 8 to 9 to strengthen bilateral relations. 

Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar held talks with Minister Yong-ho on December 8 to exchange views on future relations and cooperation between the two nations, and mutual cooperation in regional and global arenas.

After the talks took place, the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that D.Tsogtbaatar held a productive meeting with Yong-ho.

During their meeting, Yong-ho pointed out that the main focus of his visit is to review the implementations of plans which were scheduled by the two countries for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and North Korea, which falls this year.

The sides noted that the two countries are developing their cooperation in the areas of culture, education, sports and humanitarian aid, and agreed that the two nations have the potential to develop cooperation in social and economic sectors.

The Mongolian minister noted the importance of the Korean Peninsula being free from nuclear weapons and pursuing talks to resolve issues and disputes in the region. 

D.Tsogtbaatar highlighted that thanks to efforts of all parties, there have been some progress in strengthening peace and stability in the region, and stated that he hopes North Korea will make more efforts to make real progress in strengthening regional security.

Minister Yong-ho emphasized that North Korea holds the same stance with Mongolia on the future of the Korean Peninsula, and the most important thing is to strengthen trust in the region.
