Coronavirus update

Head of Public Relations and Surveillance of the Health Ministry D.Narangerel:

Within the last 24 hours, the number of infections has sharply increased in Asian countries. Especially in Singapore, the infection rate is increasing. The reason was that people who came from abroad were advised to isolate themselves for 14 days, but people did not follow the isolation regime and spread the infection to others. As a result, people in the country are not allowed to leave their homes, must keep their distance and public activities are banned. In Japan, the disease spread has increased and a state emergency has been declared in two provinces there. In our country, 21 days of isolation for evacuated people is the right thing to do. Discharged or recovered people need to follow 14 days of self-quarantine.

One of the symptoms of the coronavirus infection is pneumonia. So far, we have stocked up 456 respirators. There are enough for the people in the nation. Cases of the coronavirus reported in Mongolia did not show any symptoms. However, evacuees were isolated at the medical center and were diagnosed through laboratory tests. When we evacuate people from abroad, we choose those who tested negative for the coronavirus there. People from Russia did not meet this requirement because they were students.

Head of Surveillance and Research Department of the National Center for Infectious Disease A.Ambaselmaa:

Thirty Mongolian students who study in Moscow arrived in Ulan-Ude and entered Mongolia two days ago. Thirteen of them tested positive for the coronavirus. Their health condition is normal. Their ages are between 19 and 23. Coronavirus cases were registered at their universities in Russia. According to risk assessment, the risk of infection in Mongolia is very high. Therefore, it is important for everyone to follow the recommendations given by health organizations. In fact, 30 confirmed cases were imported. Just three of the newly confirmed cases showed symptoms while the others didn’t show symptoms.

Head of the Ulaanbaatar Specialized Inspection Department L.Tumurbaatar:

On January 9, the World Health Organization first announced about the coronavirus infection in China. Three months have passed since that time. During this period, the government of Mongolia, State Emergency Commission, Health Ministry and other related organizations have been taking steps to prevent coronavirus infections. We would like to emphasize that no cases of local transmission has been reported as of today as a result of the prevention activities of citizens, private and state organizations.

We have prepared hospitals that need to be operated in the case of potential risks, and planned required activities. In addition, the Ulaanbaatar Ambulance Service is preparing to transport suspected cases. Organizations do not need to gather a large number of people at this time of risk.

Deputy Head of the Ulaanbaatar Health Department L.Zedmaa:

Evacuated people have been quarantined at isolation facilities for 14 to 21 days. People who are discharged from isolation have to quarantine themselves for another 14 days at home. Family clinics and district hospitals have been monitoring those people. This activity was monitored as per the names of citizens provided to us by the State Special Commission. From March 24 to April 13, 2,509 people had to be monitored, of which 1,727 are currently still being monitored. As of yesterday (Monday), 1,208 people are being monitored by family clinics. The others are still in isolation. Some 502 people discharged from isolation have completed their 14-day self-isolation. The isolation period for six people has been extended.

There has also been a lot of migration registered during this period. Some 504 people moved between districts and 51 people moved to rural areas from Ulaanbaatar. Citizens who have moved to rural areas have been notified to the operative team of the Capital City Special Commission and provincial hospitals have been notified. Currently, district emergency commissions are ordered to find the addresses of 11 people. Most people under home isolation follow the regime very well, but there are some problems.

Some people registered fake addresses, phone numbers and some people traveled to rural areas without permission or notification.

Specialist of the Social Health Department O.Enkhzaya:

Teams of specialists have been working at nine checkpoints in the city at all times since February. As of 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 7,880 vehicles entered thought nine checkpoints to Ulaanbaatar and 7,515 vehicles left the city, and a total of 15,395 vehicles participated in the traffic between rural and urban areas. More specifically, 23,470 people entered the city and 22,403 people left the city, totaling 45,873 passengers. According to the Ministry of Roads and Transportation, no suspicious cases were reported from 15 trains, 3,357 passengers, 12 flights and 854 passengers, during inspection. In general, there is a lot of traffic between Selenge, Darkhan and Tuv provinces from Ulaanbaatar.
