Bill submitted to combat counterfeit fuel

On April 17, lawmaker B.Purevdorj submitted a bill on excise tax on raw materials used to produce counterfeit fuels to Speaker of Parliament G.Zandanshatar.

The bill provides for the regulation of excise tax on the import of kerosene and naphtha, which are the main raw materials for counterfeit fuels.

“There is no excise tax on import of these products across the Mongolian border, and no special license is required. Counterfeit fuel with this type of raw material damages cars and vehicles, causing 50 billion to 60 billion MNT in damages to individuals and businesses annually,” MP B.Purevdorj said.

The lawmaker noted that the imposition of excise tax on these raw materials is important to expand the tax base, reduce the production of counterfeit fuel and prevent damage to citizens, organizations and the country's economy.
