Discussion of amendment to Patent Law postponed

On October 6, the Standing Committee on Justice convened to discuss amendments to the Law on Patent and the Law on Trademarks and Geographical Indications with an attendance of 63.2 percent.

Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs Kh.Nyambaatar presented a request to postpone the discussion of the draft amendments to the Law on Patent and the Law on Trademarks and Geographical Indications, the revision of the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, and other bills.

With the adoption of the Law on Intellectual Property on January 23, 2020, there is a need to make appropriate amendment to the previously submitted draft package of laws on intellectual property. The standing committee decided to postpone its discussion with an approval of 83.3 percent.

During the meeting, the draft parliamentary resolution on rejecting of some bills and draft resolutions of Parliament was discussed.

The draft resolution states that some bills and parliamentary resolutions have been rejected. Particularly, based on the proposals of the government and relevant standing committees on more than 90 bills submitted to Parliament, 33 bills included in the annex to the resolution and five draft resolutions of Parliament will be rejected. In addition, the standing committee discussed the removal of the revision of the Law on the Treasury from the list of Annex 22 of the draft parliamentary resolution on rejecting of some bills and draft resolutions of Parliament, and 76.9 percent of members supported the proposal.

During the meeting, a working group was established to prepare the revision of the Law on Travel and Immigration of Mongolian Citizens and bills to be discussed during the plenary session. The working group will be chaired by lawmaker L.Munkhbaatar.
