‘Bogd Khan railway will reduce Ulaanbaatar traffic congestion’

On February 9, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene visited Ulaanbaatar Railway JVC to get acquainted with its activities.

He thanked the company for continuing to transport food and goods during the COVID-19 pandemic and said that the government will intensify the construction of railway to increase exports.

“The Gashuunsukhait railway will be commissioned in July next year. But the Bogd Khan railway should not be abandoned. The only way to change the quality of life in Ulaanbaatar is to develop the area of Bogd Khan Mountain. Without resolving the Bogd Khan railway, traffic congestion in Ulaanbaatar will not be reduced. This is the main direction for resolving many issues in Ulaanbaatar. Railway dams, tunnels, road connections, and tax regulations will be resolved in stages.”

“The private sector does not have to worry about this. It will be discussed in stages with the private sector, and resolved through joint planning. Detailed urban planning around the railway will be done,” the prime minister said.

On the same day, the prime minister got acquainted with the Bogd Khan railway.

Minister of Road and Transport Development L.Khaltar said, “The Bogd Khan railway will be separated from the Darkhan Railway Crossing No. 361, and will pass through Emeelt, Poultry Factory, Khushig Valley, and Sergelen soum of Tuv Province, and reach Khangai Crossing and Bagakhangai Station. There will be three large tunnels on this railroad. All transit cargo will pass through this route. A 104-kilometer road from Crossing No. 361 to Khangai will be built.”

During the visit, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene stressed the need to carefully plan the infrastructure along the railway.
