On February 16, Deputy Prime Minister S.Amarsaikhan met with the management of Gazprom Public Joint Stock Company of Russia virtually.

        During the meeting, the sides agreed to intensify the feasibility study for the Natural Gas Pipeline project.

The company plans to complete the feasibility study for Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline project in the first quarter of this year.

In addition, Gazoprovod Soyuz Vostok company was established and registered in Mongolia with the purpose of performing design and survey works and conducting a feasibility study for the gas pipeline construction project to supply Russian gas to China across Mongolia.

“With the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline, Russia’s Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline will extend through Mongolia, and its export capacity might become more than 1.3 times higher than that of Power of Siberia. This will allow us to export large amounts of gas from Western Siberia not only westward but also eastward,” said Chairman of Gazprom Management Committee Alexey Miller.

“As for the instruction to explore the possibilities for transiting gas to China across Mongolia via Power of Siberia 2, the amount of supplies on this route may total up to 50 billion cubic meters per year,” he said.

During his visit to Russia in December 2019, former Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh agreed with the Russian side to commence the project. At the time, the former prime minister emphasized that the gas pipeline project, which will be implemented within the economic corridor program between Mongolia, China and Russia, would make significant contribution to the social and economic development of the three countries.
