Boxer E.Tsendbaatar excluded from national team

The Mongolian Boxing Association decided on September 7 to pull out State Honored Boxer E.Tsendbaatar from the national team due to “immorality and violation of discipline”.

On September 5, E.Tsendbaatar called the police and reported of getting beaten by others after attending a meeting of the Mongolian Boxing Association for selecting its head. On Wednesday, the boxer denied getting assaulted, saying that he hadn’t attended the association’s meeting on his social media. However, the police said that they received a report from him. In the past, E.Tsendbaatar was implicated in fights and riots.

During a press conference on September 8, Secretary of the Mongolian Boxing Association E.Sainbileg said, “The board of the Mongolian Boxing Association held an emergency online meeting and decided to exclude E.Tsendbaatar from the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships and the Mongolian national team.”

Acting head coach of the national team J.Enkhtur said, “Boxing is a sport with a high standard of morality and order. Even though he is a great athlete, we can’t ignore his frequent mistakes. That’s why the board has made this decision.”

“In addition to building merit, an athlete is required to be ethical in order to be a good person in the country and society. E.Tsendbaatar’s actions could influence young people who see him as a role model. Athletes have to be equally responsible, regardless of their success and achievements. We will toughen discipline in the future. A national team athlete must not drink alcohol and fight at 2:00 a.m. in the morning.”

After the decision of the association, E.Tsendbaatar posted on his Facebook, “I was training for the World Championships. Now there is no need to train. I don’t need to be in Mongolia either. I will not insult anyone. But, I will say what I want to say.”
