Best handicraft products to be selected and supported for export

Ulaanbaatar’s SMEs Support Center and the Ministry of Culture jointly organized the comprehensive event “Opportunities and Solutions to Support and Develop Traditional Handicrafts-2022” within the framework of the Cultural and Creative Month. Exhibitions, empowerment training and discussions were held as part of the three-day event, which kicked off from November 7 to 9.

On this occasion, Minister of Culture Ch.Nomin highlighted that the cultural and creative industry is being developed within 12 sectors. She added that the ministry is paying attention to supporting the export of products by SMEs and handicraft sectors.

This comprehensive event aimed to increase the economic potential of the SME sector, support their sales on the international market and discuss the possibility of circulation of goods through the tourism sector.

Director of Ulaanbaatar’s SMEs Support Center G.Gangamurun said during the event, “There are more than 30,000 people who produce traditional handicrafts in Ulaanbaatar. As of today, more than 1,000 handmade crafts from nine districts of the capital are on display.”

The best 100 handmade crafts were selected from the exhibition and will be supported for export to the international market.

More than 70 percent of Mongolia’s labor market is made up of SMEs and 68 percent of these SMEs or 43,236 entities are operating in the capital. There are 11,000 enterprises and more than 30,000 “artisans” working in the production of cultural products in the city. The SME sector accounts for 18.3 percent of the country’s GDP and 2.4 percent of total export earnings.
