Mayor working in Tianjin

Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar is working in Beijing, Tianjin and Chongqing cities of China. He got acquainted with the port of Tianjin, which is the shipping and logistics center of the Northern region of China and being developed as a modern production base.

By developing into an industrial and commercial port city in the middle of the 19th century, the port of Tianjin has become the largest financial, economic, trade and business center in the northern region of China. It is capable to ship 500 million containers and the third largest in China. The port, which occupies an area of 170 kilometers in the eastern part of the city, has transport routes connecting with more than 500 ports in about 180 countries and regions of the world, and is also the main sea gateway for our country.

Executive Director of Tianjin Port Group Chu Bin said, “As for the port of Tianjin, it is characterized by technological progress and localization of automatic systems. In other words, human intervention is very low, productivity is high, 200 workers are doing the work of 1200 people. For example, after loading the container on the ship, the fastening is done by robots, which is a solution that is only used in our company.”

“The port is being developed as a connecting point between the sea and the mainland and a shipping center in northern China within the framework of the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and the coherent development strategy of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. The port of Tianjin has become a benchmark with modern solutions based on green technology, zero-waste, environmentally friendly and renewable energy for its operations,” he added.

Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar stressed, “In 1992, Ulaanbaatar and Tianjin signed the agreement on the establishment of sister city relations. In this context, the two cities are cooperating in the fields of culture, education and economy. For Mongolia, the closest port to the sea is the port of Tianjin. Most of the 90,000 containers of cargo transported through this port annually land in Ulaanbaatar. Further, special attention will be paid to smoothing and increasing freight traffic.”

“We got acquainted with the Transportation Logistics Center Project, which will be implemented to create an optimal transportation network connecting Mongolia with Asia, Europe and other continents, increase transit transportation, reduce the transportation and logistics costs of export and import goods, and speed up the cycle of goods. Within the frame- work of this project, the Mongolia will own 10 hectares of land in the port of Tianjin, China, and operate a Transport Logistics Center.”

“In addition, after getting acquainted with the port of Tianjin, we saw the smart, automatic and advanced solutions introduced in this field. These technologies and innovations that advance economic, business, and social development will be studied, experience exchanged, and then localized,” the mayor noted.
