Cultural celebration takes place in France

“Mongolian Cultural Days” was organized by the city administration in Longjumeau, near Paris, France, from March 31 to April 9, 2023. Within the framework of this event, there was an exhibition of contemporary art by more than 10 Mongolian artists, and also presenting movies of “Nomadic Children” and “Blue Sleeves”. Moreover, discussions such as “Mongolia of Today and Yesterday: Nomadic and Settled Lifestyles”, “New Direction of Tourism”, “Historical Silk Road”, and “Medieval Travelers to the Mongolian Empire-Andre the Traveler of Longjumeau” and workshop under the name “From Mongolia to Longjumeau: The Silk Road Passed through us” was held, as well. During the event, Mongolian folk tales were told, Mongolian ankle bone games we played, and a traditional fashion show was organized, as well as a program of traditional and modern calligraphy was held.

In the opening ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to France U.Nyamkhuu expressed gratitude for the mayor of Longjumeau, Sandrin Jelo, and the organizers, for the comprehensive event introducing Mongolia. U.Nyamkhuu emphasized the role of Ambassador André de Longjumeau in the historical relations between Mongolia and France and the contemporary relations between the two countries.

Ambassador U.Nyamkhuu also presented about the World Heritage Sites of Mongolia, their preservation, and their importance in tourism at the “New Tourism Direction - Mongolia” discussion held on April 2. This complex event organized by the city of Longjumu is an important event to provide information about the history and culture of Mongolia, as well as about the historical person André de Longjumeau, a native of the city, to city residents and students.

Interestingly, André, a traveler, and diplomat from André de Longjumeau played an important role in connecting the West and East, especially in the relationship between the leaders of the Mongol Empire in the 13th century and the Pope.
