The National Burn Center under the National Traumatology and Orthopedics Research Center (NTORC) opened on May 30. Prime Minister of Mongolia L.Oyun-Erdene, Minister of Health S.Chinzorig, Ulaanbaatar Mayor D.Sumiyabazar, and other relevant officials participated in the opening ceremony.

With the completion of the seven-floor center with a total of nine wards, 250 beds, and two blocks, the NTORC will reduce the load by 25 to 30 percent, and people’s accessibility to the treatment will increase accordingly. In addition, 24-hour emergency care and inpatient treatment services for burns and frostbite will be provided.

The NTORC was established on December 9, 1960, as the Injured Department at the First State Central Hospital. Later, it expanded into a hospital and started its operation in 1976 on the foundation of the center building that opened yesterday. The current building of the NTORC was put into operation in 1991, and the other departments moved there then. In 2008 and 2009, a professional inspection concluded that medical care could not be provided in the building, and since then, the Department of Burns and Shock Injuries has been operating at the Mungunguur Hospital and the NTORC. Subsequently, in 2017, the Government of Mongolia negotiated with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and the construction of the National Burn Center began.
