S.Zorig’s accused murderer requests for protection

Ts.Amgalanbaatar, who was accused and sentenced for the murder of public and social activist S.Zorig, gave information online from the prison. Based on his request, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) provided the opportunity to deliver information. He said, “On July 18, 2013, the General Intelligence Agency (GIA) met and pressured me to tell them that I murdered S.Zorig. I said ‘no’. However, they took my sick son and younger brother as hostages, so I said, I can say that I am a murderer only if you leave my family alone.”

The accused continued, “B.Sodnomdarjaa was under pressure while in the Detention Center in Tuv Province, and within a week he gave a confession. I am afraid of people named E.Bat-Uul and Ts.Elbegdorj. The officials who created fake evidence and participated in the prosecution are still working in the GIA. I want to hold a press conference to reveal all their secrets. Then I think these people can’t harm me anymore”.

After that, the member in charge of the prevention of torture at the NHRC Dr. Ya.Tselmen conveyed, “I am reporting this information to explain the dangers of torture. We do not investigate the crime of torture. Within the framework of the investigation, if possible signs are found such as criminal and torture, he will be taken to the relevant legal authority for investigation. Until the issue is resolved, a request to protect Ts.Amgalanbaatar has been sent to the relevant authority in an official letter. We have transferred the material to the relevant legal authority for the final examination, as it is advisable to investigate and resolve the issue mentioned in general.”
