Foehn wind observed in Khovd Province

According to the National Agency for Meteorology and Environment Monitoring (NAMEM), Foehn wind, or hot dry wind, was observed in Khovd Province on December 4. On this day, the weather was -14°C at 4:25 p.m. in Khovd Province, but it warmed by 15 degrees to 1°C within 10 minutes. Foehn winds are commonly observed in the lee of large mountain ranges and are typically associated with large temperature increases and relative humidity decreases due to adiabatic compression of the descending wind

Moreover, NAMEM reported that there was a snowstorm in the territory of Bayan-Ulgii Province, the west of Khovd Province, the east of Uvs Province, and the north and east of Zavkhan Province. In the western part of Bayan-Ulgii, Khovd, and Govi-Altai provinces, the wind is expected to reach 18-20 meters per second, sometimes exceeding 24 meters per second on December 5 and 6.
