Acting Minister of Health and Sports Ts.Oyunbaatar delivered a report during Monday’s Cabinet meeting on the current state of the measles outbreak and measures the ministry has taken in response. Ts.Oyunbaatar said that as of April 25, 2016, a total of 17,357 cases of the measles were recorded nationwide, with 1,366 cases being diagnosed from April 15 to 21, which was 30 percent fewer cases reported in  the previous week. The Acting Minister stressed that the spread of measles still remains high in Govi-Altai, Bayankhongor, Arkhangai, Uvurkhangai, Orkhon, and Darkhan-Uul provinces, as well as in Ulaanbaatar. The spread of the measles has primarily been impacting infants from zero to eight months old and people from 15 to 29 years old. Last week, 2,208 patients sought treatment at the National Center of Contagious Diseases, and 77 percent of these patients were diagnosed with measles. Nearly 18 percent of these  patients were hospitalized, and 21 infants and newborns are now being treated in the intensive care unit. Three respiratory machines were brought to the National Center of Contagious Diseases from the Military Hospital, National Center of Maternal and Children’s Health, and Public Hospital No.1 to help care for children in the intensive care unit.
