The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, L.Purevsuren, paid an official visit to India on April 27 and 28 to hold the 5th meeting of the India-Mongolia Joint Committee on Cooperation, as well as to witness the signing of a general agreement on a one billion USD loan from the Government of India to the Government of Mongolia. Minister L. Purevsuren and Vijay Kumar Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs of India, co-chaired the Joint Committee meeting and discussed future actions to further broaden and strengthen friendly relations, comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. During the meeting, a general agreement on a one billion USD loan from the Government of India was signed by G.Ganbold, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to India, and David Rasquinha, Deputy Managing Director of EXIM Bank of India. The authorities exchanged the instruments of ratification for the protocol for a treaty on the transfer of sentenced people, which was signed by the governments of Mongolia and India in May 2015. As part of the visit, Minister L.Purevsuren met with Indian officials, scholars, business organizations, community representatives, and Mongolian students who are studying at  Indian universities. During a meeting with Mongol studies scholars, the Foreign Minister spoke about the Government of Mongolia's measures to promote and support Mongol studies. The Minister noted that cooperation in the education and culture sectors, particularly close cooperation with Indian scholars, has played a huge role in strengthening the friendly relations of the two countries. Minister L.Purevsuren highlighted that a study of historical written documents  in Persian and the organization of a joint exhibition on the study's findings could be one possible area of cooperation in the future. The visit to India by Foreign Minister L.Purevsuren is part of intensified bilateral exchanges following an upgrade of bilateral relations since the historic visit of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mongolia in May 2015. During that visit, the relationship between the countries was upgraded to strategic partnership and a series of important agreements were signed, including agreements in the defense and security fields.
