Minister of Agriculture explores introducing halal slaughter processes to Mongolia

Last week, Minister of Food and Agriculture R.Burmaa received representatives from the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), led by TIKA’s Vice President Mehmet Süreyya Er, on Friday to discuss the possibility of introducing halal slaughter technology and procedures for processing livestock in Mongolia. Halal processing prescribes to standards for the slaughter of animals according to Islamic law. The technology presented by TIKA is designed to facilitate the halal slaughtering process, where the animal is conscious when it is slaughtered and a significant amount of blood is drained before the carcass is processed. From April 13 to 15, around 30 people working in the nation’s meat industry took part in training introducing the slaughtering technology. During Friday’s meeting, the training participants were granted halal food certificates issued by the Turkish Standards Institution. Minister Burmaa underlined that the training was crucial in contributing to the nation’s meat production and export, and livestock husbandry development. Halal food certification is available in 39 countries and creates possibilities for Mongolia to export meat to countries with a preference for halal certified meat products, the ministry stressed.
