Mongolia looks to strengthen cooperation with UNESCAP

Last week, Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Purevsuren met with Shamshad Akhtar, the Executive Secretary of the United Nation’s Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), to discuss and share opinions on advancing cooperation and relations with UNESCAP. Beginning the meeting, the Foreign Minister thanked Executive Secretary Akhtar for attending the Asia-Europe Meeting Finance Ministers’ Meeting, and underlined that the meeting will contribute to the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Addis Ababa Action Agenda. L.Purevsuren expressed his gratitude for the enduring support and cooperation UNESCAP devotes to Mongolia in achieving socio-economic development, especially in infrastructure development and promoting the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries. Minister L.Purevsuren stressed that this year marks the 55th anniversary of Mongolia joining the United Nations, and highlighted the importance of the Executive Secretary’s visit to Mongolia. The parties exchanged views on future cooperation between Mongolia and UNESCAP in accomplishing sustainable development goals, and discussed regional and Northeast Asia subregional joint projects and programs in the energy, science, and technology sectors.
