Cabinet supports Mongolia-Russia freight transit transportation

On Monday, the Cabinet discussed a draft intergovernmental agreement on terms for rail freight transit transportation between governments of Mongolia and Russia, and permitted Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Purevsuren to sign the agreement with the Russian side. The Cabinet believes that it needs to create pleasant conditions for freight transportation in order to export mining products to foreign markets, ensure export price competitiveness, attract foreign investors to the Mongolian mining industry, create possibility for operating sustainably over long periods of time, and ensure the nation’s economic growth. Mongolia and Russia have been negotiating on rail freight transit transportation conditions since 2009. The agreement is expected to be signed during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, set to take place from June 23 to 24 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
