Truck collision kills seven in Bayan-Ulgii Province

A truck collision killed seven people and left a six-year-old girl in critical condition on August 1, in Ulgii soum of Bayan-Ulgii Province. The truck was transporting 50 tons of cement to Bayan-Ulgii Province from Khovd Province. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while driving downhill and crashed into a shop. The casualties included the truck driver, a 29-year-old woman in the passenger seat, a 33-year-old man in the backseat, a 42-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man who were crossing the street, a 19-year-old man, and a 15-year-old girl who was working at the shop, reports the Traffic Police. The accident took place at around 5:00 p.m. at a three-way intersection next to Tasban Petrol Station in the 13th baga of Ulgii soum in Bayan-Ulgii Province. The truck was reportedly transporting cement necessary for new houses for 300 families hit by flooding on July 10 in the 9th and 13th bagas of Ulgii soum. According to the police, the accident was caused by faulty brakes. A total of 120 emergency workers, 37 from the Bayan-Ulgii Province Emergency Department and 55 from the professional Disaster Response Unit of Ulgii soum, worked at the scene of the accident.
