Mining and Heavy Industry Minister meets with OT leadership

Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry Ts.Dashdorj met with authorities of Oyu Tolgoi LLC (OT) to discuss the company’s current conditions, activities, and development. OT representatives said that they are working to ensure safe and sustainable operations, develop domestic supply networks, and support domestic procurement. They said that as of the end of the second quarter of 2016, 93 percent of OT’s staff were Mongolians. The company’s authorities underlined that they are aiming to cooperate with domestic suppliers, and prioritize keeping a majority of its underground mine development investment in Mongolia. The Minister asked about the company’s production results. “According to preliminary studies, copper production - which was projected to be around 208,000 tons in 2016 - is expected to be 204,000 tons. We are able to explore high-grade gold ore from our open pit mine, and the gold production is expected to exceed our projections,” the company authorities stated. The meeting took place in the presence of Director of the Oyu Tolgoi Board G.Batsukh, former Chief Executive Officer Andrew Woodley, Rio Tinto’s Director in Charge of Mongolia S.Munkhsukh, Deputy Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry Kh.Badamsuren, MP A.Undraa, and chairmen from the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry
