Doctors from Interplast Australia are organizing a training and performing surgeries free of charge in Mongolia from August 17 to 25. During these eight days, Australian doctors will perform free surgeries for children with orofacial defects, as well as plastic and reconstructive surgeries. They’ve been scheduled to work at the Integrated Hospital of Khuvsgul Province in Murun city from August 17 to 20, and at the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center from August 22 to 25. The training for Mongolian doctors will be on the latest techniques for treating burn patients and inducing anesthesia to patients. Mongolia first partnered with Interplast in 2008 through Safe Anesthetic training program, aimed to increase the number and improve the skills of anesthetists in Mongolia. The first 16 trainees started training through the program in September 2009 and graduated in March 2011. Australian anesthetists also attend the annual MSA scientific meeting to provide professional development to current Mongolian anesthetists and trainees. In 2015, Interplast was approached by Bright Blue, the Western Australian Police Commissioner’s Fund for Sick Kids. Bright Blue supported Interplast in expanding its programs into surgical support to Mongolia, and sent doctors to deliver a burns mentoring program for Mongolian doctors.
