Through the economic corridor program, Mongolia, Russia and China have successfully conducted transportation trials through China’s Port of Tianjin, Ulaanbaatar, and Russia’s Ulan-Ude from August 13 to 25. Within the scope of the trial, roads and transportation authorities of the three countries met in China’s Port of Tianjin. The meeting was attended by Mongolian Deputy Minister of Roads and Transportation B.Tsogtgerel, Chinese Vice Minister of Transport, authorities from the Russian Ministry of Transport, and representatives from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and delegates from the Asia-Pacific economic and social councils. The three countries highlighted the socioeconomic importance of the transit transportation. Mongolian representatives underlined that there are four main land transportation routes connecting Eastern Asia and Europe, and the shortest route passes through Mongolia, which is also the most economically efficient route. As of today, around 90 percent of container shipments travel for 45 days by sea, which is timely inefficient. Freight transportation by railway from Asia to Europe takes 10 days, while road transportation can be conducted in seven days. The trial route is 2,152 kilometers long and passes through 11 cities and ports of Mongolia, Russia and China. Industry analysts believe that developing a transit transportation route connecting Eastern Asia and Europe win open up possibility for Mongolia to export products to the Republic of Korea, Russia and Kazakhstan. Three out of 32 projects included in the economic corridor project between Mongolia, China and Russia are related to the international transit route.
