Public holiday to be observed for local elections

Local elections in 2016 for provincial councils will be held on Wednesday, October 19. According to the Law on Elections, the Head of the Information, Research and Technology Department, B.Oyumaa, announced that October 19 will be a public holiday. Polling for local elections for Citizen's Representative Councils will take place from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Election campaigning officially started last Saturday, October 1. A total of 7,282 seats are open in the 21 provinces, 1,613 bags, and nine districts in the capital. There are 15,212 candidates running for the open seats, representing nine political parties, one coalition, and 723 independent candidates.
