Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival to kick off next week

The 8th Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival (UBIFF) is set to start at Tengis Cinema on October 11. The general organizer of the 8th UBIFF is Arts Council of Mongolia and co-organizers are embassies of France and South Korea in Ulaanbaatar, Goethe Institute, and Taipei Trade and Economic Representative Office in Ulaanbaatar. They will jointly introduce local audiences to a range of the most recent and cinematically daring, uncompromising and powerful filmmaking from around the world. The UBIFF will present an exclusive program of the best from the international scene, including award-winners from Cannes, Berlin and Toronto International Film Festivals and nine other critically acclaimed films from Afghanistan, France, Germany, South Korea, Poland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The UBIFF will kick off with the screening of a Mongolian, Polish, and German joint film “Zud”, which is directed by Marta Minorowicz, on October 11 at 7:00 p.m. A tradition of the UBIFF is to choose a focus country of the festival. According to this tradition, South Korea was chosen as the focus country. On October 12, “Korean Film Day” will take place at Tengis Cinema. The UBIFF, in collaboration with the South Korean Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, will showcase three Korean films. On October 13 and 14, six films from other countries will be screened.
