Former Health Minister G.Shiilegdamba receives 5.1-year sentence for bribery

Former Health Minister G.Shiilegdamba received a 5.1 year prison sentence on August 4 for receiving bribery. G.Shiilegdamba’s friend O.Davaansuren, former Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health G.Ganchimeg, Directors of Metro Network company E.Gantulga and T.Ider were also charged by the court. The Criminal Court of Sukhbaatar District tried G.Shiilegdamba and his associates, with Judge B.Munkh-Erdene presiding over the court while S.Oyunchimeg and Z.Boldbaatar determined the verdict. The judge’s panel sentenced the former Secretary General of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party and former Health Minister G.Shiilegdamba to 5.1 years in prison and ordered the seizure of the bribery money by the government. O.Davaasuren received 1.6 years for attempting to bribe. Former Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health G.Ganchimeg was imposed a fine of 19.2 million MNT and CEO of Metro Network E.Gantulga was fined 14 million MNT. G.Shiilegdamba was arrested in October 2015 by investigators of the Independent Authority Against Corruption who claimed he was caught in the act of receiving a bribe in his office. According to the Criminal Law, the maximum sentence for a civil servant who has received bribes is five years.
