Minister of Foreign Affairs Ts.Munkh-Orgil and Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry P.Sergelen paid a visit to Russia. As part of their visit, the ministers met with Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergey Yefimovich Donskoy on August 21. During their meeting, the sides highlighted that as of the first half of this year, trade turnover between the two countries had reached 561 million USD, increasing by 32 percent compared to last year, and pointed out that there are “great opportunities” for the two nations to develop cooperation of chemistry, ferrous metals, heavy equipment and textile industries. Minister Ts.Munkh-Orgil, the Mongolia’s chair of the 21st meeting, and Minister Donskoy, the Russian chair of the meeting, agreed to organize the 21st meeting of the Mongolia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission in October and made a decision to host meetings of subcommissions in charge of affairs regarding agriculture, environment and transport to draft the agenda for the intergovernmental commission’s meeting and to make the meeting mutually beneficial. The ministers noted that the commitments of the 20th meeting of the intergovernmental commission are going on well as the two countries expected and agreed to work together to organize the Mongolian Prime Minister’s visit to Russia this year. The sides discussed the Mongolian President’s visit to Russia from September 6 to 7 and talked about issues, which will be discussed and agreements to be signed between the two counties during Eastern Economic Forum, set to be held in Vladivostok, Russia on September 6 and 7. Minister P.Sergelen discussed the import of wheat and fodder from Russia for the second phase of the government program to improve Mongolian livestock health. The sides also emphasized that they will work together to sign an agreement on rail transport conditions between the two countries’ governments during President Kh.Battulga’s visit to Russia next month.
