Acting Agricultural Minister visits Belarus to develop bilateral cooperation

Acting Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry P.Sergelen paid a visit to Belarus from September 17 to 20 to participate in the fourth meeting of the Mongolia-Belarus intergovernmental commission on trade, economics, science, and technical cooperation, and to develop agricultural cooperation between the two countries. The meeting of the intergovernmental commission took place in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, on September 19, and Acting Minister P.Sergelen and Belarusian Minister of Industry Vitaly Vovk headed the meeting. During the meeting, the sides discussed the future plan of the two countries’ cooperation, the commitments of the third meeting of the intergovernmental commission, and about developing a mutual cooperation in a wide range of fields such as trade, food, agriculture, roads and transportation, mining, construction, urban planning, banking and finance, health, environment, natural disaster, and industry. They agreed to focus on pursuing new ways and solutions to deal with financial challenges facing the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. By establishing soft loan agreements between the governments and development banks of the two countries, the delegates talked about collaboration to finance projects to supply Belarusian equipment to Mongolian authorities in charge of food, agriculture, roads and transportation, and emergency management affairs. They also spoke about supporting the export of Mongolian meat, dairy products, leather, cashmere, wool and other agricultural products. The sides explored the possibility of an agro park development in Mongolia, which would supply agricultural technology, heavy machinery, and equipment for mining and construction. The Mongolian official also asked to train Mongolian technicians who will operate Belarusian equipment and technologies in Belarus. As a part of his visit, P.Sergelen met with Belarusian Minister of Agriculture and Food Leonid Zayats and Belarus’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas on September 18 to discuss relations and cooperation between the two countries. The sides noted that the fourth meeting of the intergovernmental commission is of significant importance to preparing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s state visit to Mongolia.
