UN Resident Coordinator discusses cooperation projects with Deputy Minister

United Nations Resident Coordinator Beate Trankmann met with Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin on November 2 at the State Palace to discuss some ongoing projects between the UN and Mongolia. Trankmann underlined that the government of Mongolia is concentrating on implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiated by the UN, and stated that as these goals are related to a wide range of sectors, harnessing cohesion between the sectors by carrying out a consolidated government policy will be of significant importance to improving the implementation of SDGs. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the UN’s development and humanitarian assistance to ensure socio-economic sustainable development by 2030. He highlighted that the UN and donor countries and organizations’ financial aid and support services helped Mongolia overcome its harsh winter conditions with less damage than anticipated. He underlined that the UN has made a great contribution to strengthening the capacity of governance and local level capacities for disaster risk reduction, management, and coordination. The pair also exchanged ideas on the preparations for the 2018 Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will be hosted in Ulaanbaatar next year.
