Some members of the Mongolian national basketball team participated in a joint training in Tianjin, China for 14 days with the support of the Mongolian Basketball Association. The athletes returned back to Mongolia on January 6. The Mongolian team won a friendly match that took place during the training, with 69 - 65 on the scoreboard. The team trained with Tianjin Gold Lion (a Chinese professional basketball team based in Tianjin, which plays in the Northern Division of the Chinese Basketball Association). Tianjin Gold Lion was named as one of the best eight university basketball teams of China. This joint training was sponsored by the Mongolian State Committee of Physical Culture and Sports.
